NEW!  Vitamin and Genetic Testing

The Institute of Antiaging now offers extensive vitamin testing, cardiovascular risk testing, and specialty genetic testing in conjunction with Spectracell Laboratories. Using the most advanced technology, our patients are able to assess their overall health based on test findings, and create a lifestyle plan that addresses their individual risks and deficiencies. Each of our tests are based on a blood sample drawn at our clinic. Test results are analyzed by Dr. LeConey and discussed with the patient at a follow-up consultation.

TELOMERE TESTING... What is your biological age?

What is a Telomere? Telomeres are the sections at the ends of your chromosomes. Telomeres serve as "protective tips" at the end of the chromosomes to prevent chromosonal fraying. As your cells age, your telomeres get shorter. When your telomere cannot shorten any longer, the cell dies.

Telomeres - Shows telomere ends

What does Telomere testing measure? Spectracell's Telomere Test is the ONLY commercially available Telomere test. We measure the length of your telomeres in relation to your chronological age to determine how quickly you are aging.

What can the Telomere test tell me about my health? Telomere length tells us your "biological age" as compared to your "chronological age". Scientific studies have shown that certain lifestyle habits can slow the telomere shortening process, and thus slow the aging process. Scientists recommend keeping a low body mass index (BMI), eating a balanced low calorie diet, getting at least 6 hours of sleep per night, and avoiding stress, and taking Bio Identical Hormones in order to slow the shortening process. Foods such as refined carbohydrates, fast foods, processed foods, sodas, artificial sweeteners, trans fats and saturated fats have been proven to shorten telomeres.

How often should I test my Telomeres? Testing should be done once per year to evaluate the rate of aging and make adjustments in nutrition, nutritional supplements, weight management, exercise and other lifestyle modifications known to influence telomere length.

LIPOPROTEIN (LPP) TESTING... Advanced testing for Cardiovascular risk

SpectraCell’s LPP test is the most advanced lipoprotein test currently available. Unlike traditional cholesterol tests, Spectracell’s LPP™ directly measures both the density (size) and number of several classes of lipoprotein particles, including critical risk factors as cited by the National Cholesterol Education Program, giving an accurate assessment of cardiovascular risk.

"Determining a patient’s risk for Cardiovascular Disease may not be accurately determined through cholesterol testing alone "

HS-OMEGA-3 INDEX

This test determines the patient’s risk for sudden cardiac death (SCD). Half of all fatal heart attacks are due to SCD which is defined as death within one hour of the event.  Most sudden cardiac deaths are due to cardiac arrhythmia. An adequate level of the omega-3’s EPA and especially DHA can reduce this risk by 90%. The HS-Omega-3 Index measures the percentage of EPA and DHA levels in red blood cell membranes. The HS-Omega-3 Index is a great complement with the LPP test for cardiovascular risk reduction and the management and treatment of lipoprotein disorders.

Apo-E GENOTYPING

This test determines an individual’s genetic risk associated with the Apolipoprotein E gene. ApoE is involved in the metabolism of cholesterol and triglycerides, and variants in this gene can have important implications for disease risk as well as one’s response to statin therapy, dietary fat, and other risk factors (eg., smoking and alcohol consumption). About 45% of individuals carry one or more of the high risk variants within the ApoE gene. The results of the genotyping of Apolipoprotein E have important implications in the treatment strategies for individual patients in reducing cardiovascular disease risk.
